Aghyaran Summers Day 5k

Five Tír Chonaill athletes made the short journey to Aghyaran on Friday night for a superbly organised and very well supported 5k road race.
Mark McGuinness in his first attempt at the distance ran an excellent 17mins 41secs for 14th overall position and claim to 1st Junior prize on the night. Sean Kerr's was a close 2nd in the Junior section - time of 18mins 35 secs. Richard McCarthy coaches both athletes in Donegal Town and was involved in a coach versus athlete competion throughout the race. Richards time of 18mins 28 secs was good enough for 1stF prize in the O50 category.
Vera Haughey was the next Tír Chonaill athlete to finish - time22mins 12secs and 2nd 45.Jackie Harvey was 2nd in the 050 section with a time of 24mins 51secs.
Ciaran Doherty, LAC, 15mins 21secs was an impressive overall winner from Ciaran Carlin, Finn Valley,16mins 11secs wit club mate Ian Ward 3rd -16mins 28secs. Teresa McGloin won the overall women section.One hundred and sixty two finishers, outstanding organisation, involvement of the whole community and hospitality that will guarantee that this event will grow again next year. A special thanks to the local committee/community led by Mark Connolly.
