Superb Performances from Our Juveniles in the Odyssey, Belfast

Our juvenile athletes enjoyed the experience of competing in a world class arena and responded with many outstanding medal winning performances and PB’s. The 'Ulster Juvenile Championships' had athletes participating from all over Ulster plus numerous additions from outside the province.

 

On Sunday, Karl Griffin, led the clubs medal rush, with an outstanding exhibition of front running when winning the 95, 800m in 1min 59.89secs, a remarkable time and a new PB. In the same event Mark McGuinness, must also be very happy with his performance, he finished a close 4th in a very good time of 2mins 10.12secs. Sean Kerrs experienced this event for the first time also ran very positively in heat 3 to record a good time. Clare Brady, 95, 2nd in 200m heat and Ciaran Cornyn, 94, 3rd 200m heat also performed very well.

 

On Saturday, club athletes, competed with great success in a variety of disciplines, Kelly McGrory,’96, won the 60m final in new PB time of 8.25secs. Kate McGowan,’97, had a very busy and rewarding day, winning silver medals in 60m H, 10.21secs[she recorded 10.13secs in qualifying in the semi final], Long Jump 4.23m and bronze in the 60m - 8.71 sec's. Club mate Eva Macmillan took silver in the later event with a very good time of 8.63secs. Emma Brady,’96, Hurdles, filled second place in the final  with an exceptional time of 9.86 sec's. Ruth Gillespie qualified for the final of the ’97, 60m H -10.79secs and filled 5th place in the decider.

97 800m Katie Hoad, 2mins 52.48secs, Derbhla Hoey, 2mins53.14secs, Jessica Quinn, 3mins 14secs, Katie McCafferty, 2mins3mins 26secs,

Mark Boyle 2mins 46.25secs.
