Ulster/NI Master Cross Country Championship, Stormont Estate, Belfast
17 Jan 2009
At Stormont Estate in some of the worst conditions ever witnessed, our master athletes performed heroically, with some exceptional running. Paul Ward led the men with a brave run, finishing in the top fifteen. Men’s team captain Richard McCarthy had one of his best runs of this winter with a gritty performance to finish just ahead of a battling Noel Thomas, with Ironmen in training, Vinny Duffy and Tony Cummins courageously fighting the elements to complete the scoring team.
The women, who had the worst of the weather to contend with, fought bravely and hard for every place. Led home by the ever improving Philomena Gallagher, who finishing just outside the top ten with a strong and forceful run, gaining valuable places on the final run in. Next up was Jackie Harvey, having one of her best cross country races in some time, Jackie sliced her way through the field with some powerful running. Sharon McGowan and Brenda Morris were brave and courageous in their running to complete the scoring team. Well done all.
