Tír Chonaill & Donegal Athletes selected for Celtic International
Congratulations to Tír Chonaill athlete Aoife O’Connor on her selection on the Ulster/Northern Ireland Celtic Track & Field Team that competes in Petrivie, Scotland on the 2nd August. Aoife gains a place in the U18 Long Jump and as a member of the 4 x 100 relay squad. The team was selected on Wednesday night and finds a number of athletes from Tír Chonaill and other north west clubs making either the under 16 or 18 squads.

The selectors had a difficult job and in all events also selected a non travelling reserve. The Ulster Team will be lead by Clara Magee who competes in the U18, 1500m. Ciara recently represented Ireland at the World Juniors in Poland where she ran a magnificent time of 4mins 19.2sec to make the finals. Joanna Mills will lead the U16 age group also has been setting headlines recently with PB’s of 5.75 Long Jump and 39.12 secs -300m. Jason Harvey and Curtis Woods will lead a very talented U18 group. Both were members of the Irish Junior 4 x 400m Irish relay squad that smashed the National Junior record, 3mins 10.2 secs at the recent World Juniors in Poland.
Locals who have been hitting the headlines recently and will give a good account of themselves in Scotland include the ever improving Letterkenny pair of Daren Mc Brearty U18, 1500m and Lisa Shields U18-200m, Finn Valley’s Schools International Pauric McLaughlan U18 Steeplechase and Laura Feely U18 Shot Putt, Sl Liag’s specialist High Jumpers, Paul Donovan U18 and Ryan Byrne U16, Enniskillen’s very talented bunch Ciaran Dolan U18 Triple Jump/Relay, Gerard Maguire[Beeleek] U18 Sprints /relay, Neil Cullen U18 ,3000m, Stuart Connor U16 Sprints/Shot & Relay and Strabane’s Ben McGillen U16 Long/Sprints/Relay.
Scotland, Wales, Ulster and the Rest of Ireland are the four competing teams.
