Carney 10k
Easter Monday 24 Mar 2008
The Carney 10k provided the action for many of our club athletes on Easter Monday, with the second staging of the Carney 10k, a fine way to blow away the after effects of the Easter Chocolate feast.
Success came the way of Philomena Gallagher with a good second place in her MW35 category while Marie Rooney recorded another fine run for second in her MW40 category.
Others competing and with great runs were: Richard McCarthy, pleased with his first 10k of the season, Linda Ward, good to see her running so well again, Sharon McGowan, Michael Gallagher, Vera Haughey, Jackie Harvey, Carol Roper, who had a massive new personnel best for the distance, Ann Donoghue, some two minutes faster for this course, Brenda Morris, Olivia Murphy, Canice Nicholas, who knocked over two minutes off his previous best for the distance, and Tony Cummins, with a few seconds to spare on last year’s time.
Others from the local area who had good runs were Fran Duffy and Sinead O’Donnell. Some of this group will travel to Omagh next Saturday for the Omagh half marathon; travel arrangements will be discussed at training during the week.
