Ulster Novice Ladies

The 'Finn Valley Centre' was the venue again on Sunday last for the Ulster/NIAF Novice Cross-Country Championships, where the club had a men’s team and two individual women competing. The unavailability through injury meant that the club had no women’s team backing up the fine effort of the two individuals.

Sharon McGowan had perhaps her best cross-country race of the season with a strong run over a flat, but sticky course that saw ten juvenile races ran on it before the novice. Crossing the line in a strong 9th place, Sharon was the second Donegal women to finish and was pleased with her effort.  Sharon Meehan, who had come almost directly from her work on a night shift, had another solid run and placed a great 14th overall.

Ulster Novice Men

Our men, led by the ever improving Gary Thomas, who had a powerful run, eating up the ground in each of the five laps, over the 6000m circuit to finish third Donegal man in 9th place and take the team to fifth position.  Richard McCarthy followed his good run form the previous Sunday with another solid performance in 16th place, followed by Vinny Duffy in a super 20th place.  Jonathan Kennedy, finding the soft ground a little tough was well pleased with his 28th place ahead of Sean Cassidy in a good 30th with Tony Cummins, called into action again at the last minute and never failing to deliver with a good 36th place finish.  Well done all.
